The Center Street Pedestrian Bridge is a signature landmark of the Principal Riverwalk in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, connecting the city’s east and west sides. This distinctive 434-foot bridge features two separate paths: one for walkers, joggers, and runners, and the other for bicyclists. The bridge’s split decks are supported by a single arch spanning the Des Moines River.
Wells Webster played a vital role as a subcontractor to the engineer of record, providing construction administration and observation services. The firm also contributed to the design criteria, risk management, value engineering, and cost estimating. Additionally, Wells Webster acted as a liaison between all responsible entities, offering hydraulic modeling, civil and electrical design, and modifications to existing flood control structures.
